Cost guide
What subfloor repair and leveling costs
Every floor has a flatness requirement, and most old subfloors do not meet it. Leveling compound over a slab, new plywood over a soft spot, sistering a joist: these are priced per square foot of the area that needs it, not the whole room, so a good quote shows where.
$1–$3 per square foot
What moves it
Three things that change the price
- Flatness: tile needs 1/8 inch in 10 feet, plank a little more
- Rot and soft spots under old bathrooms and kitchens
- Slab moisture: a test is cheap, a mitigation coating is not

National averages: material plus installation per square foot from the same cost tables FlooringFAQ publishes, extras at typical contractor rates. Local labor moves the range; a quote far outside it deserves a question.
