Cost guide

What engineered hardwood costs, installed

Engineered hardwood is a real wood veneer over a plywood or HDF core, priced by how thick that veneer is. A 2 mm wear layer can never be sanded; a 4 mm one can be refinished once or twice. It goes where solid wood cannot, over a slab and in a basement, and it moves less in humid air.

$11.50–$16.50 per square foot installed
Full range $9–$19. Typical installed cost is the middle half of the national range, materials and labor at average rates. Builder-grade product with the cheapest crew runs under it; premium product with a specialist runs over.
